Scenic Rim Eat Local Week isn’t just about eating great food. There are plenty of opportunities to improve your cooking too.
Some of the region’s most passionate chefs will open their kitchens to students and reveal how to incorporate in-season Scenic Rim ingredients into your meals.
Aspiring Masterchefs of all ages are catered for during the bumper week of food-related events, which runs from June 27 to July 5.
Scenic Rim Eat Local Week is about connecting consumers with the producers of the food, wine and beer that they love.
It’s also about encouraging consumers to source ingredients that are in season and are produced close to home, thus reducing the distance the products have travelled to the plate.
For Terri Taylor, these concepts are at the heart of her cooking philosophy. During Eat Local Week Terri is offering classes at her Tamborine Mountain Cooking School, which operates from her picturesque home kitchen on the mountain.
During a relaxed cooking class Terri shares her trade secrets and knowledge of slow food, gained over years working as a chef in leading commercial kitchens. You can book into Terri’s classes during Eat Local Week on June 27, July 1, 2 & 3. The special Eat Local Week price is just $66 and includes an eight-course lunch.

Children love making a mess in the kitchen but if the thought of letting them loose on your kitchen horrifies you don’t worry – Kate Raymont to the rescue.
Kate is a well-known Scenic Rim caterer who offers regular classes for adults at the Wild Lime Cooking School in the Lost World. During Eat Local Week Kate will focus on children, teaching them how to make healthy, yummy meals using Scenic Rim ingredients. Kate’s Kitchen Kapers classes are being held at Tamborine Mountain, Beaudesert and Boonah on July 1 and 2. The classes are open to children aged 8 to 12 and cost just $12pp. Bookings are essential.
The class ends with a taste test and students leave with new skills and some easy-to-follow recipes.

On Saturday June 27 sheep farmer, Carolyn Davidson, will run her Towri Sheep cheese-making workshop on her Allenview property. Learn to make your own sheep’s cheese at home and enjoy a relaxed day that includes cheese tasting, lunch and a cheese-making handbook.

On June 30, Witches Falls Winery and Terri Taylor are working together to host A Match Made in Tamborine Mountain – wine, cheese & canapés tasting. Over two hours guests can enjoy a triple- treat – six beautiful wines from Witches Chase, canapés from Terri Taylor and gorgeous cheese from Witches Chase. The producers will reveal how their products are made on the mountain.
The bushland throughout the Scenic Rim is brimming with native foods and during Eat Local Week there are some great opportunities to learn more about this.

On June 30, Mt Barney Lodge is inviting children aged five to 13 to go on a Bush Tucker Trek to forage for native foods. On June 29, July 1 & 3 guides from Binna Burra Mountain Lodge will be at the DJ Smith Park in Canungra offering an insight into the foods and bush medicines that have sustained people on the land for 40,000 years.

Sarabah Estate is hosting a number of QLD wine and cooking experiences. Guests will learn to use QLD wine, native herbs and local produce during these relaxed classes, being offered on June 28 and July 4 & 5. The cost is just $45pp.

On Sunday July 5, catch renowned Tamborine Mountain organic chef and author, Brenda Fawdon, at The Green Shed Markets, where she will lead cooking demonstrations from 8am to 10am.
Until recently Ms Fawdon owned Brisbane’s Mondo Organics – Australia’s first licenced organic restaurant. Her demonstrations are sure to be entertaining as Brenda shares her love for creating beautiful, nourishing food.
