Eat and drink your way through the beautiful Lost World in the Scenic Rim’s south.
The popular Lost World Farm Gate Festival returns on June 30, the first day of Scenic Rim Eat Local Week.
The Lost World community celebrates Eat Local Week by throwing open the farm gates to visitors. Eat and drink your way through the day as you visit Tommerup’s Dairy Farm, Ladybrook Farm, the Christmas Creek Café, Hillview State School Community Co-op and Christmas Creek Honey.
The Lost World is the stunning wilderness region of the Scenic Rim and is only a 90-minute drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast (via Beaudesert).
1. Tommerup’s Dairy Farm & Farm Stay
The gates open from 7am to 10am for Moo to You, a backstage pass to a real working dairy farm. This is your chance to experience the morning milking with Farmer Dave. Watch the cows being milked, chat to the Tommerups, meet the calves and wander around the property. And yes, mums and dads there will be a coffee van!
2. Christmas Creek Café
Eat, browse and relax in this lovely rural setting. Soak in the mountain views and order from the Taste of Country Cooking menu, featuring local ingredients and a hearty country roast. Open all weekend and for dinner.
3. Hillview School Community Co-op
This local Christmas Creek school has a sustainability focus and on June 30 will offer stalls of local goodies that represent and celebrate the rural culture. Shop from stalls selling vegetables from the community garden, beeswax beauty products, and handmade clothing.
4. Farm to Fork @ Tommerup’s Dairy Farm
From 10am through until 2pm, the Tommerup Family will welcome more visitors for a day of animal feeding, market stalls, farm games and a picnic in the paddock. Meet the cows, calves, chooks, guinea pigs, goats, pigs, and sheep. Browse the produce market stalls, meet local makers and producers and enjoy a picnic in the paddock. Bookings essential.
5. Tunes, Brews, Food & Fun at Ladybrook Farm
Visit this working cattle farm and learn what goes into producing beef on a commercial scale. Phillip Thompson will be there with his legendary bullock team. See the team of working dogs in action at the yards. Stay for a two-course lunch featuring home-grown beef and pork, locally-sourced chicken and vegetables. Catered by The Wofty Possum. Tea and coffee available all day, plus fresh meat and market stalls, gluten-free donuts, craft beer, wine and horse and calf feeding. Live entertainment all day. Bookings essential.
6. Christmas Creek Honey
Call into the farm gate stall at this family-run, self-sufficient farm, located on the site of the historic Lamington Telephone Exchange, Post Office and Tramway Station. Jars of honey available for sale all day. 1950 Christmas Creek Road, Lamington.
