Forget your workout of the day.
If you really want to test your strength and power sign up for the Kalbar & District Community Bank Tractor Pulling Competition.
It’s a true test of man (and woman) against machine.
The popular contest returns to this year’s Eat Local Week Winter Harvest Festival on Saturday July 2.
Teams of 12 can enter for the chance to win a share of $3000 prize money for their favourite Scenic Rim sporting or community club. The team that pulls the 12-tonne John Deere tractor over 20m in the fastest time wins.
Teams can nominate now for both the junior and senior events.
Junior teams of four competitors aged 10 to 14 can test their strength against a 1.8tonne Little Boomer tractor.
Mayor Greg Christensen says the event always attracts some good-spirited rivalry between teams.
“This is the third year we’ve held this event and we love how enthusiastically it’s been embraced by the community,” he says. “I hope to make it off the reserves bench as a guest for the Qld Police team.”
“It’s a lot of fun with a great result in the end, being valuable funds for a local community organisation.”
The Winter Harvest Festival will be staged at the Aratula Community Sports Complex from 10am to 4pm on Saturday July 2. It’s the signature event of Scenic Rim Eat Local Week, which runs during the school holidays from June 25 to July 3 and features farm tours, cooking classes, producer dinners and much more.
The Winter Harvest Festival will feature producers and retailers from across the region, food stalls, hot and cold food, live music, free rides for the children and a packed program of cooking demonstrations by Eat Local Week ambassador and QAGOMA Executive Chef Josh Lopez, Javier Codina from Moda Restaurant, Cameron Matthews from The Long Apron and Brenda Fawdon, the co-author of the new EAT LOCAL Book.
