About Scenic Rim Eat Local Month

Scenic Rim Eat Local Month is Australia’s most authentic paddock-to-plate food and farming experience. Held annually from the last weekend in May to 30th June, this month-long celebration offers visitors an exclusive backstage pass to explore the region’s farms, wineries, distilleries, resturants and authentic paddock-to-plate experiences. It’s not just a food festival; it’s an immersive journey into a new world of flavours.

Scenic Rim is located in Southeast Queensland, about an hour’s drive from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The region, blessed with fertile soil, produces an extraordinary range of products, from its bountiful harvest of fresh fruit and vegetables to premium wines, dairy and gourmet favourites including olives, artisan cheeses, jams and relishes. It is also renowned for its award-winning duck, ethically pasture-raised chicken, premium Wagyu and distinctive camel milk liquor, reflecting the diversity, quality and innovation of the Scenic Rim’s producers. The agriculture and tourism industries contribute a staggering $680 million to the regional economy and Eat Local Month is a celebration of the people whose hard work makes this possible as much as it is of the produce itself.

The Festival Backstory

The event began in 2011 as Scenic Rim Eat Local Week, initially featuring 25 events to an audience of 900. Now in its 15th year, Eat Local Month runs annually from the last weekend in May to 30 June, spanning over a month and more than 150 events, connecting visitors with the region’s farmers, producers, artisans, brewers and butchers. This harvest celebration features farm-gate events, hands-on workshops, masterclasses, and immersive culinary experiences for foodies of all ages.

The month-long food and farming celebration culminates in the Winter Harvest Festival, Scenic Rim Eat Local Month’s signature event. Here, Scenic Rim Food Ambassadors and local producers showcase their passion for food and share their expertise, offering valuable insights into how our fresh produce makes its way to restaurants, kitchens, and tables across Australia. Catch them live at one of our stages for an interview or cooking demonstration. Enjoy live music, browse food and produce stalls, join a workshop, enter a tractor pull team, and experience good old fashioned country hospitality.

Scenic Rim Eat Local Month and the Winter Harvest Festival are curated by Scenic Rim Regional Council’s Regional Prosperity and Communications Team. The event is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland, as part of a growing calendar of sporting, cultural, and regional events throughout the state.
