Scenic Rim Eat Local Week Ambassador, Josue (Josh) Lopez, has been treated to a culinary road trip of the region, touring the farms and food producers as part of his new role.
The talented Executive Chef of the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) and popular Brisbane foodie was already fond of our produce, choosing to feature Scenic Rim carrots on the menu he prepared for the world leaders during the G20 Summit in Brisbane.
QAGOMA has partnered with Council for the upcoming Eat Local Week festivities and the Winter Harvest Festival, Eat Local Week’s signature event held at Aratula.
During his tour of the region, Josh made a number of stops at award winning food and agricultural businesses including butcheries and bakeries, a cheesery, vineyard and olive farm. Hey also got his hands dirty inspecting carrot, onion, pumpkin and tomato farms.
“Many of you are familiar with the ‘paddock to plate’ concept, yet for me it’s not good enough just to use those words, but to actually put it into practice, engaging with the wonderful produce here in Australia’s food bowl,” Josh Lopez said.
“I’m really proud to be the Ambassador of Eat Local Week and I hope to see you in the Scenic Rim during the event.”
Mayor John Brent said he was delighted Council had partnered with QAGOMA and a talented chef such as Josh Lopez for the region’s major food event.
“It’s great to host a chef out in the fields to really see where the great products and produce comes from,” Cr Brent said.
“The fertile fields of the Fassifern are well known throughout Australia for the excellent produce they provide, and the Scenic Rim can be very proud of the capacity we have to deliver such quality products.
“I look forward to another successful Eat Local Week, the festival celebrating our wonderful local produce and producers, and I welcome Josh to explore and showcase the unique Scenic Rim ‘paddock to plate’ experience.”
