FOOD trucks are huge right now and so is eating local.

During Scenic Rim Eat Local Week we’re bringing the two food crazes together for the ultimate eat local food truck experience.

Kat Creasey and Matt Whalley of The Design Collective Markets have organised The Beaudesert Gourmet Street Food Festival on Sunday June 25.

Food trucks will take over Jubilee Park and ‘adopt’ a local farmer or ingredient.

Think fingerlime kombucha; paella with Tarome red claw; a Boonah burger featuring Rathdowney beef and Kalbar carrots.

Live music will give a great vibe to the day as you graze your way around the foo trucks.

Kat says she’s noticed a growing interest among market crowds in the source of the food they’re eating.

“We find a lot of people are asking more questions now about where the produce is sourced from,” she says.

“A lot of the vendors use free range, or spray-free produce. They’re health conscious and our crowd doesn’t mind spending more money on food if they know it’s coming from the right place.

“We are very particular with our foodies to make sure they’re using local fresh produce.

“For the Scenic Rim Eat Local Week market we’ve given them a map of the region and said ‘Go for it’. They’re really getting into using the food from the region.

“This produce is so close to our foodies, most of them are based on the Gold Coast. I’m sure this is going to create a positive business relationship with the farmers who are out here.”

Kat says the Scenic Rim has proven really popular with the Design Collective Market audience.

Recent markets are Tamborine Mountain and Canungra were well supported and Kat says people love the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

The Beaudesert Gourmet Street Food Festival is on Sunday June 5 from 9am to 2pm at the Jubilee Park in Beaudesert.
