Your kids won’t have time to complain about boredom when they visit the Scenic Rim for the annual Eat Local Week Festival.
Between seeing cows milked by robots, picking their own carrots and cuddling a lamb while learning about sheep’s milk cheese, the kids will have a school holiday outing in the country to remember.
Scenic Rim Eat Local Week is a popular food and farming festival that asks visitors to consider their food and drink choices and recognise the vast array of products available on their doorstep.
The Scenic Rim, with its volcanic soil, is a highly-productive region for a bounty of produce, including vegetables, beef, pork, poultry, honey, olives, dairy, craft beer and wine.
Eat Local Week runs from June 27 to July 5 and features an array of free and low-cost activities that are perfect for families and food lovers.
“Scenic Rim Eat Local Week is all about celebrating the farmers who produce the food and drink that we so often take for granted,” says Scenic Rim Mayor, Cr John Brent.
“I would encourage parents to bring their children out to the region, which is just one hour’s drive from the Gold Coast and Brisbane. This is a unique opportunity to give your children an authentic insight into how their food is produced and to meet the people behind that food.”
The full program is online and features many family-friendly events, including:
