Scenic Rim Eat Local Week plates up this weekend, June 27 & 28, with a packed schedule of free and low-cost food and farming events on offer.
The festival of food and farming showcases the bounty of fresh produce, wine, beer, milk and gourmet products that grow in the region’s fertile alluvial soil.
Eat Local Week launched five years ago and asks visitors and locals to consider their food and wine choices and tap into the array of products available on their doorstep.
This year’s event runs from June 27 to July 5 and features more than 50 individual events – from farm tours, to cheese and wine tastings, to cooking classes and producer dinners.
A highlight of this year’s event has been the partnership between the Scenic Rim Regional Council and the QLD Art Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA).
QAGOMA Executive Chef Josue Lopez is one of six chefs who will conduct cooking demonstrations at the Winter Harvest Festival on July 4. Josh will recreate two of the dishes he served at the Scenic Rim degustation in his GOMA Restaurant recently.
Scenic Rim Mayor, John Brent, encouraged Scenic Rim locals to take the opportunity to get to know their local food and wine producers and gain an insight into the journey their food takes to their table.
“From the start, Scenic Rim Eat Local Week has been an authentic food event, designed to connect farmers and consumers,” says Cr Brent.
“Each year the event has grown in size, but we have always remained focused on retaining that authenticity.
“Eat Local Week offers a range of experiences – from ‘get muddy’ farm tours, to kids’ cooking classes, bush tucker experiences, to five-course degustation dinners.
“There really is so much on offer for food lovers of all ages. Please support this wonderful event and get to know your local farmers and producers.”
